I found this through the AAEM website. I like it. I think we should all try to present ourselves as professionals. Sometimes I can’t figure out who the doctor is when they stand next to one of our regular patients in paper scrubs.

Strangely I do not see vests mentioned once in this article.
Seriously though, it says in the ED setting scrubs are preferred. Or am I missing something?
No, you’re not missing anything. Scrubs are fine in the ED. Especially when you wear a vest with them. My point is when I am at Home Depot, or Kroger and there is a physician wearing scrubs, I feel that it is a incorrect presentation of our profession. Don’t get me wrong, I have bought a gallon of milk or two in scrubs, but when it comes to presenting yourself to the public in a public forum, I feel we should dress appropriately. We aren’t working in the meat department, so regular clothes should be fine.
Wearing scrubs or any attire out in the community that has been worn around patients, is a great way to spread disease. I think Gucci has an antimicrobial line but only Derm, NES, and Rad Onc will be able to afford them.
