I think I’ve shown this to a few of you, but this is an interesting article Droperidol Article
Kind of amazing how some extremely dubious data can affect clinical practice for years, and take a great medicine out of our hands.
Also, do you think these QT concerns that we are now hearing about with Zofran have anything to do with the fact that its now waaaay cheaper than it used to be? No one seemed worried when it was raking in the cash.
Ever read Howard Brody’s book Hooked? It’s basically a collection of stories like that and worse. Really interesting read, deals an even hand I think. Doesn’t paint them all as monsters, but definitely hits some hard.
I am no conspiracy theorist but clearly droperidol has been squashed because of industry interests. I will add back in the body of the post here a few aticles about droperidol. Including the article with the 10 cases that earned it the bogus black box. The black box did not impact my practice but the national shortage and essentially total shutdown of manufacturing with no estimated date of resuming has impacted my practice. I had stated many times in the past that if I didn’t have droperidol I couldn’t be an ER doctor. Really sad. Magic drug.
